ICON's International collaborations strengthen - the London International Science Fiction and Fantasy Festival (SCI FI LONDON) will present a collection of short Israeli SF films selected by director of ICON, Uri Aviv.
Among the films presented in the collection is Naomi Wiener's "Another Year", winner of the Rotem Moria Fund contest, presented at ICON 2008, as well as other Israeli short films who've either been presented or submitted for presentation at ICON in the past 2 years (detailed list follows).
Louis Savy, director of SCI FI LONDON, has been a guest at ICON 2008 and part of the International Jury.
the program is In conjunction with the British Council of Arts in Israel and as part of BI-ARTS and the British-Israeli Arts Training Scheme.
About the Program
At the core of SF is its basic question: "What if?" – This most basic of questions is answered all around the world, in different cultures and with different languages, but with basic human truths.
The state of Israel was founded first as a work of fiction. Today, over a century later, we invite you to view and examine some of the "what if?" questions people in Israel are asking now, and their unique answers.
The stories vary from the personal (a mother terrorized by her unborn child) to the universal (technology distorted by the evils of man), convey cosmic optimism (even the angel of death can take a break when he's in love) alongside deep fears of the future (the coming of the messiah might not bring about utopia…). Most of all we deal with our greatest fear – with humor, reflection and doleful sadness – we try and handle our own mortality.
