Icon pays close attention to the young population of its visitors, for science fiction and fantasy has much to offer children and teenagers in educational value – in the cultivating of thought, curiosity, innovation and imagination, and in encouraging reading and literacy, as well as the access to science and technology.
The Enchanted City
From Monday to Wednesday, October 5th-7th, Icon will operate a fare full of activities for kids from the late hours of the morning until evening. Each activity and workshop is accompanied by an educational activity, producing in the participant a familiarity and an interest in history and mythology, reading and literacy, science and technology (for example: the mythological and scientific origin of incredible animals, the true use for medieval weapons, etc.).
Welcome to the enchanted city of Hogskville. The city offers diverse possibilities – a battle ring for the brave, shooting using a bow and arrow for those with Elf precision, studying witchcraft and making potions, a craftsman corner, and more. The town troubadour will entertain you with stories and juggling, a talented fortune teller will read your future in cards, palms and coffee, and of course, as in any town, the inn isn't just a place to freshen-up, but an open door to a new adventure…
The Enchanted City fair will be operated by the "Stav Arts" company: www.stavarts.com.
The Journey to Wish Forest – a play for the entire family
From Thursday to Saturday, October 8th-10th, Icon presents the children's play "The Journey to Wish Forest"
Once upon a time there was a forest that used to hear the wishes of people from all over the world, and invite them to try its fruit. The legend tells that the forest still exists, but the way to it is revealed only to the pure of heart. Today, the bravest of all knights, the naughty leprechaun and the fairy Moonlight, embark upon an adventure in Wish Forest. If you possess some courage you are welcome to join, they need your help and are waiting for you by the ancient tree!
The children's play is operated by the "Jovle" company, www.jovle.co.il, and was written and performed at the Haifa Festival.
The Jovle Company specializes in the worlds of fantasy and magic, and creates experiential events that pose a meeting point between theatre and event. The participants feel as if they are heroes in a fairytale. Their ability to affect the plot and to face an array of situations places them in a new creative zone.
The worlds of fantasy and magic are filled with contents dealing with kindness, attentiveness, concession, equality, the solving of problems in a new and original way, and sometimes the discovering of a braver, stronger and more original self. We believe, that the use of imagination, when it is clear what the imaginary role is and what reality is, aids in self-development and the enhancement of social skills.
In recent years we have manufactured many wonderful events, from gentle and magical birthdays at home, to adventure voyages through the forest for the family. We have been given the privilege to work with thousands of kids and they have been the best of teachers for us. The play, Journey to Wish Forest, written and presented at Haifa Festival, was created in order to reveal our knowledge for as many children, big and small, as possible.
