Marc Caro - Guest of Honor at the film festival

Marc Caro is a French movie-maker and production-designer. Born 1956, in Paris, begun his work in animation, and in 1976, at an animation film festival, met the French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who became his creative partner.

The two directed three short films together (two of which animated), and two feature length films - "Delicatessen" (1991) and "The City of Lost Children" (1995), in both Marc was also the production designer.
During their collaborations, Marc focused on the visual aspect, while Jeunet dealt with directing the actors. Marc designed the settings and costumes and drew the storyboard for the films.
The films were highly rated by critics and audience alike. Although the pair stopped directing films together, they joined forces on the film "Alien 4" which Jeunet directed and Marc supervised the design.

"Delicatessen" awarded him the César Award for Best Debut and Best Writing for 1991 and a nomination for the BAFTA film Award as Best Film not in the English Language. "The City of Lost Children" has been nominated for the Golden Palm Award at Cannes Film Festival, in 1995.

The films he directed are stylish fantasies with great emphasis on the visual aspect, taking place in a macabre, nightmarish at times, world. The films gained many fans throughout the glob.

His first solo directing effort, "Dante 01" (will be screened in this year's Icon), is a science fiction thriller taking place in a psychiatric prison in the depths of space. The film was released last January in France and later on to the rest of Europe.
